Dukkah Restaurant and Bar
Millhouse was asked by an existing customer to create a brand new store and to assemble a creative team to create an iconic building and dining destination in central Durban. Millhouse asked Richard Stretton from KOOP architects to work on the project. The building took inspiration from architectural styles along the East African coast that respond well to the climate, especially Maputo with it's beautiful colonial and modernist buildings with their many Bris Soleil, courtyards and arcades. The new restaurant was named after the famous African spice mix "Dukkah" and with that a new identity was created. This new identity extended into the architecture with Millhouse creating a Corten steel lasercut facade across the entire width of the building. This was followed up with additional signage, menus, a responsive website with CMS and online gift cards and photography.
